Mulch
Project type
Residential Landscape Enhancement
Location
Long Island, NY
Mulching is about working with natural processes rather than against them, to form a protective blanket over the soil.
Mulch plays several key roles in keeping plants healthy and soil productive. It helps retain moisture by slowing evaporation, and it regulates soil temperature and suppresses weeds by blocking sunlight, making it harder for unwanted plants to grow.
We use mulch because it makes plant care easier and more efficient but also helps prevent soil erosion and compaction, especially during heavy rain.
Beyond function, mulch has a strong visual impact. A fresh layer of mulch creates a clean, unified look that makes plants stand out. Its rich, earthy colors—deep browns, reds, or blacks—contrast nicely with green foliage and bright flowers, giving gardens a polished, intentional appearance.
In short, mulch is one of those rare things in gardening that is both highly practical and aesthetically pleasing—it protects, nourishes, and beautifies all at once.
